Fast Facts About 3LAU

3LAU is the performing alias of Justin David Blau, a DJ from Las Vegas. Blau was born on January 9th, 1991 in Syosset, New York. He started playing music at a young age, learning to play piano and guitar, as well as to sing. When he was thirteen, he moved with his family to Las Vegas. Blau went to Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and started his music career in 2011 after a vacation to Sweden.

Blau fell in love with EDM (electronic dance music) in Sweden at the age of 20. After returning to the United States, Blau started producing his own mashups of others’ sounds and posting them to his YouTube channel, where he first started using the name “3LAU.”

  • Blau’s first success was on YouTube, where he had several viral hits, including “Girls Who Save the World” and “All Night Long.”
  • 3LAU started DJing while he was still in college, doing nights at local clubs in the St. Louis area while attending Washington University.
  • In addition to being a highly successful DJ, 3LAU has also done significant charity work. The artist has raised several hundred thousand dollars for Pencils of Promise, a charity that used his funds to build a school in a low-income area in Guatemala. He also formed a non-profit record label called Blume.
  • 3LAU has released numerous singles, but he’s only put out one album so far – Ultraviolet. The record was released via his own label, Blume, and hit No. 1 on the iTunes Electronic charts and No. 7 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic charts.
  • Blau has collaborated with numerous notable artists on his songs, including Bright Lights, Said The Sky, Yeah Boy, Justin Caruso, Iselin, Shaun Frank, Grabbitz, and many others.
  • 3Lau’s star sign is Capricorn.
  • The DJ is estimated to have a net worth of approximately $1.5 million.

3LAU: Singles

In addition to releasing one studio full-length record, 3LAU has an impressive catalog of singles. His debut, “Escape,” features Paris and Simo and Bright Lights, and was released on June 24, 2013, via Revealed Recordings.  He followed “Escape” with “How You Love Me,” another collaboration with Bright Lights, which was released via Island Records in March 2014. Bright Lights has been 3LAU’s most frequent collaborator, also appearing on “Somehow,” “Runaway,” and “Down for Life.”  The majority of 3LAU’s singles have been collaborations with other artists. In fact, he has only a few singles that do not feature other DJs or vocalists. His solo singles include “Miss Me More,” “On My Mind,” and “Star Crossed.”

Ultraviolet

On February 16th, 2018, 3LAU released Ultraviolet, his debut studio album and only full-length record to date. The album was released via Blume, 3LAU’s label. It has 11 tracks, many of which feature other artists. The record has been described as a combination of synth pop, house, and trap. In March 2021, 3LAU sold Ultraviolet songs as NFTs (non-fungible tokens), gaining over $12.7 million in revenue from the sales. Blau is an advocate for NFTs, which he hopes will provide artists with an opportunity to get more recognition and financial support for their work. Speaking to The Groove Cartel, 3LAU said: “I’m excited to help give power back to artists. This is the first step in a longer mission to connect artists directly to their fans, and allow artists to capture the value they create in the world.” Blau’s use of non-fungible tokens to gain capital for his artistry is a perfect example of his ability to innovate in the art world. As 3LAU, Justin has never been afraid to push the boundaries of creative expression, but he’s also an innovator in the world of cryptocurrency and a diligent philanthropist.

3LAU: Remix Work

In addition to releasing his own music, 3LAU has also created a number of authorized remixes for high-profile artists. His remix work includes reworkings of songs by Zedd, Adele, Tiesto, Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, Kati Perry, Rihanna, San Holo, Alesso, The Chainsmokers, and others.

Blume

In 2016, Billboard highlighted Blume, Justin Blau’s non-profit record label. Blau created Blume in an effort to raise money for the educational charity Pencils for Promise. In his interview with Billboard, Blau explained why he wanted to donate the proceeds to Pencils of Promise, saying the following: "My passion for education lies in its capacity to re-shape the root causes of virtually every single global misfortune, from poverty and disease to corruption and war," explains Blau. "Access to education is a stimulating force for change and a core solution, not just a band-aid for symptomatic issues." In addition to raising funds for Pencils of Promise, Blau plans on using Blume as a platform to raise money for other worthy causes in the future.
