Ariana’s Origins

Ariana was born to Joan Grande and Edward Butera. Her mother is the CEO of a communications company, and her father is the owner of a graphic design firm. Her older brother, Frankie Grande, is also an actor and musician.  From a young age, Ariana had a knack for the stage. Whether she was singing or acting, she drove any crowd wild. She spent time performing with the Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theater in Florida, appearing in versions of Broadway plays like Annie, The Wizard of Oz, and Beauty and the Beast.

Moving to LA

At just 13 years old, Ariana moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. Her early aspirations were to be an R&B artist, a dream that eventually became a reality. However, her early gigs in LA were all acting-related, and it wasn’t until later that she started working on music.  One of Ariana’s earliest acting jobs was in a music video for Greyson Chance. In the video for Chance’s song “Unfriend You,” Grande played Greyson’s ex-girlfriend.

Victorious

In 2009, Ariana landed a recurring role on the Nickelodeon show Victorious. Thanks to the success of the show, Ariana became a household name. However, Ariana still had her heart set on a music career.  Ariana later reprised her role as Cat in Sam and Cat, starring alongside Jennette McCurdy of iCarly fame.

Getting Signed

During the filming of the second season of Victorious, which premiered in April 2011, Ariana started focusing on pursuing music in her free time.  She uploaded singing videos to YouTube, covering artists like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Whitney Houston. The videos were later spotted by a friend of the CEO of Republic Records. Not long after, Ariana had a deal with Republic, who released her first single, “Put Your Hearts Up.”

Making It Big

On August 30, 2013, Ariana released Yours Truly, her debut album, via Republic. The record was a huge hit, making it to the top of the Billboard 200 and earning a Platinum certification in the US. Her distinct voice and blend of pop and R&B appealed to listeners worldwide, and she quickly got to work on a second record.

My Everything

Working with producers like Benny Blanco, Ryan Tedder, Max Martin, Zedd, and others, Ariana released My Everything, her second album, via Republic in August 2014. The record was a huge hit and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2015. My Everything features “Bang Bang,” a collaboration between Grande, Nicki Minaj, and Jessie J that was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2015 Grammys. In 2015, Ariana dropped The Remix, a collection of remixed tracks from previous records. The collection features duets with the likes of The Weeknd, Big Sean, Iggy Azalea, and Mac Miller, along with remixes by Zedd, Dada Life, 3LAU, and more.

Dangerous Woman

After dropping Christmas & Chill, a holiday-themed EP, Ariana put out Dangerous Woman in May 2016. Her third album became the twenty-eighth best-selling record of the year. It was followed by the Dangerous Woman Tour, which saw Ariana take to stages worldwide and perform for millions of fans. Following the release of Dangerous Woman, Ariana re-released the album track “One Last Time” in support of the victims of the Manchester Bombing in England. She also held a televised benefit concert called One Love Manchester.

Sweetener

Ariana’s fourth studio album, Sweetener, was released on August 17, 2018. The album features guest appearances from the likes of Pharell Williams, Nicki Minaj, and Missy Elliot, and it went on to become one of Ariana’s most successful releases to date. Featuring the singles “No Tears Left to Cry” and “God is a Woman,” the album made it all the way to number one on the Billboard 200.

Thank U, Next

Thank U, Next, Ariana’s fifth album, became one of her most critically and commercially successful releases yet. The album’s title track became one of its biggest hits, but every single song on its tracklist hit the Billboard Hot 100. After the release of Thank U, Next, Ariana worked on several other projects before moving on to another album. She worked on the soundtrack to the remake of Charlie’s Angels, collaborating with Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey on the track “Don’t Call Me Angel” for the film.  Later in 2019, Ari released “Boyfriend,” a duo with Social House, and co-wrote Normani’s track “Motivation.”

Positions

Ariana’s most recent album is Positions, which dropped in October 2020, earning her another Platinum certification in the US. The album debuted atop the US Billboard 200, and it went on to land on several best-of-the-year lists at the end of 2020.  Along with the title track, one of the most successful songs on Positions is the remix of “34+35,” which features Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat. Since the release of Positions, Ariana has released several high-profile collaborative singles, including “Stuck with U” with Justin Bieber and “Rain on Me” with Lady Gaga. Shortly after the release of the album, Ariana got married to Dalton Gomez, who had become her boyfriend in January 2020.    Sources: Ariana Grande: Yours Truly Album Review | Pitchfork Why Ariana Grande Will Never Stop Honoring Mac Miller | E Online Ariana Grande's 'Thank U, Next' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart With Biggest Streaming Week Ever for a Pop Album | Billboard
