How Joel Made It Big

Corry started as a DJ when he was a teenager living in north London. Prior to his start in the music industry, his older brother was a DJ as well. Joel grew up listening to the music from the UK garage scene in the Barnet neighborhood of north London, and his original DJing moniker was DJ Jenga. He also went to college for music production and later studied the music business.  In an interview with The Guardian, Joel talked about how he embraced the grind and worked as a DJ for over a decade before making it big in the studio. “I’ve DJed to commercial dancefloors – sometimes six or seven nights a week – since I was 16, and I’m 32 now,” Corry said, “DJing is the love of my life; it’s electricity, adrenaline, joy. And when it comes to production and creating my music, I now know the moments the crowd needs to have: the drops, the singalong moments, the hooks.”

Geordie Shore

Joel Corry's first Stint in the spotlight was in a role on Geordie Shore alongside his then-girlfriend Sophie Kasaei. The show started airing in May 2011 and continues to run, but Joel has since departed from the cast.  It’s typical reality fare about the personal drama experienced between couples living in Newcastle, England, Magaluf, Spain, Cancun, Mexico, and other locales. The second series of the show, which aired in 2012, primarily focused on the dissolution of Joel’s relationship with Sophie. During his time on the show, Joel ran his own personal training company and had a namesake fitness app. He's also the founder of Most Rated, a gym and leisurewear company.

Joel Corry's Music

Here's a brief rundown of the music Joel Corry has made since his debut in 2015.

Joel Corry’s Early Singles

Joel's debut single was "Back Again," a song he followed with "Light It Up" in 2015. These two tracks were never featured on an album or any other larger project. Joel stayed quiet throughout the following year, but he released five songs in 2017 – "Just Wanna," "All the Things, "All Night," "Sunlight," and Feel This Way."  The following year, Joel dropped several more non-album singles, including two collaborations with singer Hayley May – "Good as Gold" and "Fallen." Other singles from that year include "Hurt," "All I Need," and "Only You."

A Streak of Hits

Between 2018 and 2021, Joel has released several major hits with the help of some of the biggest artists in the industry. His breakthrough single was "Sorry" in April 2019, a song that made it to number six on the UK charts and features uncredited vocals from frequent collaborator Hayley May. It broke the record for the most shazams in a day.  A year later, Joel released his second Platinum-certified single, "Lonely," and that track made it into the UK top ten. "Lonely" was co-written by David Alan Edwards, Dean Josiah Mundie, Harley Jayne Sudworth, Neave Applebaum, Nicholas James Reid, and Steve Edmond Heyliger. The track was accompanied by an official music video starring Aimee Corry, Cris Haris, Harlee, and Joel Corry. After the success of "Sorry" and "Lonely," the British DJ put out his first number-one hit in 2020. "Head & Heart" features vocals from MNEK and was co-produced by KOLIDESCOPES, Lewis Thompson, and Neave Applebaum. Remixes of the track were later released by Jack Back, Vintage Culture, Kokiri, Timmy Trumpet, and others.  According to an interview with Idolator, the song “Head & Heart” had been in the works since late 2019. Joel passed the demo on to MNEK in early 2020, and the two ended up collaborating remotely and communicating over WhatsApp in order to complete the track. The entirety of the production was completed with the two artists working remotely. Joel followed up his work on “Head & Heart” with official remixes for Katy Perry, Sam Smith, and other big names in pop.

Joel in 2021

This year, Joel has released three successful singles, starting with "Bed," a collaboration with Raye and David Guetta. That song earned Platinum certifications in the UK, Australia, and Finland. His next track was "Out Out," which was co-produced by house DJ Jax Jones and features Charli XCX and Saweetie. His most recent single is "I Wish," featuring Mabel, which is set to appear on an upcoming album. We can’t wait to hear his new tracks.
