Who Is KSI?

KSI was born Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji. He was born to Jide and Yinka Olatunji and has one brother, Deji Olatunji. Deji makes content on YouTube as ComedyShortsGamer. Both Deji and KSI have massive followings on YouTube, and they’re often listed in the ranks of the most popular creators on the platform.  However, the brothers’ relationship hasn’t always been smooth sailing. They had a feud in 2018 after KSI gave personal information about Deji’s finances to fans via a video. Luckily, the brothers were able to sort out the dispute after a year of tension.  KSI launched his first YouTube channel, “JideJunior,” in 2008. The channel was quickly abandoned in favor of his KSIOlajideBT channel, which he started a year later in 2009. That channel primarily featured videos of KSI playing FIFA and commentating, an early example of the “let’s play” phenomenon that swept YouTube starting in the late 2000s. By 2012, the KSIOlajideBT channel had hit the 1 million subscriber mark, proving KSI’s unique ability to create compelling content. He continues to upload videos on YouTube, but he started dividing his attention to focus on music and other pursuits in the mid-2010s.

KSI’s Early Music

KSI’s first song, “Lamborghini,” was uploaded to his YouTube channel and made available on streaming platforms on March 23, 2015. Produced by DJ Turkish, the track was released by the Dcypha Productions label and features guest vocals from P Money. “Lamborghini” made it to the number-two spot on the UK Indie chart and was followed by another single, “Keep Up,” several months later.  Other early releases included “Goes Off” and “Friends with Benefits,” which were included in the tracklist for the EP Jump Around

KSI’s First Album

KSI’s debut studio album, Dissimulation, was released on May 22, 2020, via RBC Records and BMG. The album features production for a long list of beat-makers, including Mams Taylor, Gitty, Jacob Manson, Smash David, and many more. Five singles were released prior to the full-length album – ”Down Like That,” “Wake Up Call,” “Poppin,” “Houdini,” and “Killa Killa.” After the album’s release, reviewer Kitty Empire from The Guardian described the record as more genuine than his previous works, which she referred to as “YouTube Rap.”

KSI’s Later Music

KSI’s second album, All Over the Place, was released on July 16, 2021. Featuring guest appearances from Anne-Marie, Digital Farm Animals, Polo G, Future, 21 Savage, and others, the album went Silver in the UK and topped the UK Albums, UK R&B Albums, and UK Independent Albums charts after its release. On the 6th of August, 2021, KSI and Lil Wayne released the track “Lose,” which became KSI’s first song to register on the Billboard Hot 100.

KSI’s Boxing Career

In addition to being a prolific content creator on YouTube and a rising artist in the music industry, KSI has also competed in several high-profile boxing matches. His first fight was with fellow English YouTube star Joe Weller, and that fight was motivated by an online feud between KSI and Weller. The beef between the two YouTubers started when KSI made inflammatory comments about Weller’s mental health.  As a result of the boxing match – which KSI won – fences were mended between the two content creators, with KSI gaining newfound respect for Weller based on his tenacity in the boxing ring. After the fight was over, KSI set his sights on several other YouTubers, including Jake and Logan Paul, expressing his intentions to fight them, too. Not long after the fight with Weller, KSI kept his promise to fight one of the Paul brothers. The first fight between Paul and KSI took place in early 2018, and it was later described as “The biggest white-collar boxing match in history.” Thousands came to Manchester Arena to watch the fight in person, and millions more tuned in online. The match was ruled a draw, resulting in a rematch in 2019, which Paul won.
