Selena Gomez & The Scene

Selena and her band, The Scene, released their debut album, Kiss and Tell, on September 29, 2009. The album features the singles "Falling Down" and "Naturally," and its release was followed by an appearance on Dancing with the Stars and a national tour. The band's next album, A Year Without Rain, was released on September 21, 2010. The record was certified Gold by the RIAA, and it features two singles – "Round & Round" and "A Year Without Rain." The group's final album before the start of Selena's solo career was also their most popular. Created with help from Britney Spears, Katy Perry, and other stars, the album features the singles "Who Says," "Love You Like a Love Song," and "Hit the Lights," and it went Gold in the US.

Stars Dance

After three successful albums with The Scene, Selena kicked off her solo career in 2011 with Stars Dance. The album yielded two singles – "Come & Get It" and "Slow Down," and it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. That same year in November, she hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards.  Stars Dance was released through Hollywood Records, but Selena parted with the label in 2014. Her next records were released by Interscope.

Revival

Selena's album Revival was released on October 9, 2015. Featuring production work by Benny Blanco, Max Martin, Rock Mafia, and several other notable producers, the album's most successful single was "Good For You." That track features rapper ASAP Rocky, and it made it to number 5 on the Hot 100 in the US. "Hands to Myself," the album's third single, made it to number 7 in the United States, and it was praised by critics for taking a unique sonic and lyrical turn. A few years after the release of Revival, Gomez was featured on the track "Taki Taki" by DJ Snake with Ozuna and Cardi B. In recent years, she's also collaborated with the likes of J Balvin, Benny Blanco, Tainy, and others. Gomez worked with Masked DJ Marshmello on the track "Wolves," which dropped on October 25, 2017.

Rare and Revelacion

Selena's third studio album, Rare, dropped on January 10, 2020. The album features production work by Jon Bellion, Kid Cudi, and others, and it gave Selena her first number-one hit in the US – "Lose You to Love Me." That single, co-written by Julia Michaels, went on to go 3x Platinum in the United States.

Selena as an Actress

Selena is just as well known for her film and television career as for her music. In addition to starring in Wizards of Waverly Place as Alex Russo, Selena has also appeared as a cast member in Ramona and Beezus, Hotel Transylvania, the Woody Allen film A Rainy Day in New York, The Princess Protection Program, Only Murders in the Building with Steve Martin, and numerous other films and TV shows.  At present, she’s better known as a singer than an actor, but that may well change soon.

Selena's Personal Life

Selena is frequently open with fans on social media about her personal life. She's shared on Instagram about her struggles with social media addiction, anxiety, and depression. She also revealed to her followers that she suffers from bipolar disorder.  In addition to sharing about her mental health struggles, Selena also made her lupus diagnosis public in 2012. Due to the disease, the musician and actress had to receive a kidney transplant. Raised Catholic, Selena has gone through multiple phases in her spiritual life as an adult. She’s expressed distaste towards the term “religion,” stating that she prefers to think of herself as having a relationship with God. Selena is a frequent attendee of Hillsong Church, and she’s appeared on stage with the church’s worship band, Hillsong Young & Free. Her song “Nobody” has implicitly spiritual lyrics, and the singer has shared in interviews that its lyrics are addressing God.  In the past, Selena has been in romantic relationships with several other musicians, including Nick Jonas, Justin Bieber, Zedd, and The Weeknd. After breaking up with The Weeknd in October 2017, Selena became the subject of several of the artist’s songs. There were recent rumors that she was dating Chris Evans, but they appear to have been debunked.
